In winter, Mount Washington is a world-renowned ski and snowboard resort, home to one of the deepest natural snowpacks in the world with an average of 10 metres (33 feet) of snow a year. It is set on a mile-high mountain with 360 degree views, including an amazing panoramic view of the ocean below. It offers 1,600 acres of downhill terrain, a world-class Nordic centre, two terrain parks, a biathlon centre and much more!
International ski teams from 10 countries including Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States came to Mount Washington to do pre-Olympic training using the world-class facilities in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
Nine ski lifts glide you to a total of 60 full range of ski runs, including the Boomerang, a quad chairlift accessing the Outback – 400 acres of backcountry terrain where every run is double black diamond. The front side of the mountain has a great mix of advanced, intermediate and beginner runs, two terrain parks and a snow tube park with its own lift. Mount Washington has a vertical drop of 505 metres ( 1,657 feet ), with night skiing to extend your skiing on the slopes.
Private and group ski lesson sessions are available for skiers at all skill levels.
There are night skiing and snowshoeing possibilities at our Nordic centre too. The world-class Nordic facilities offer a total of 55 kilometres ( 33 miles ) of scenic trails for cross country skiing along with 20 kilometres ( 12 miles ) of rolling snowshoe trails to explore. Ski the World Cup cross country course, or head off through forests, around frozen lakes and across alpine meadows at your own pace.
